A latest data published by US consulate services indicates that getting US university degree is again in demand among Indian students. This data shows hike of 50% in visas issued to Indian students since last year. This also breaks the trend of last two years with lesser application for US colleges. Presently, there are nearly 100,270 students are enrolled in different universities.

As per the US consulate services, 5600 student visas have been issued in India between October 2012 to February, 2013 recorded a 50% increase since last year.

India has been one of the major countries sending large number of students to US from 2001 to 2009 before being overtaken by China. Indian students make it nearly 13.1% of total foreign students population in US. Speaking on this report, US embassy consul general Josh Glazeroff said, “We are seeing really big growth in student visa issuance so far....For us it is a huge jump....really positive. We think this is in response to all the outreach we have been doing.”

US-India Educational Foundation (USEIF) in recent months targeted not just schools in metro cities, but at the same time tier II cities as well. It has conducted outreach programmes in Bihar, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Guwahati, and Orissa in last few months.
